Quick engineering salary comparison based on the #DEVBG stats from 2023 and 2024 in the Bulgarian IT industry. Dev.bg publish yearly a summary of the Bulgarian IT engineering salaries based on the job openings offers on their platform. https://lnkd.in/dNU5MD8D (2023 stats) https://lnkd.in/dX_dxvP7 (2024 stats) Based on the population data (let's assume it's a proper representation of the real world) we can determine the following: 1. PHP should be dead but it isn't (unfortunately) as it's one of the two categories with growing salaries in all job positions and ranges. 2. The second is the full stack development with a minimum drop of 65 levas in the first MID range(2-5 years) 3. All ranges except the Senior level(5+ years of experience) have a drop in salary compared to 2023 but for some seem negligible compared to the notion in the industry that "it's going down and AI will take over the world" :) 4. We can see that seniority still counts and there is now a shift towards growth of salaries of more senior people compared to others as the market tries to regulate. 5. There is still a lot of green for a "dying" and "shrinking" industry. Description: Over 100 website views in one day, ZERO views on the Romanian page, and few views on the Hungarian page. Positive Effects of the Mistake: - Discovered a curiosity about the content on the website. - Identified that the language selection button is not in the right place. - Realized that Wix Studio doesn't always display the interface correctly. - Learned which localities to target on social media for higher conversion (saving time and money on further testing). ⚫And it all started from a seemingly trivial mistake pointed out in a comment. Microservices: Symphony or Chaos - was the title of the Architecture Panel 🎤 I participated in last week at #PeakIT006, with Dino Esposito, Dan Patrascu-Baba and Claudiu GURA   ⚡A Modular Development Approach is Key, in microservices or not - was one conclusion we've reached 💡   You may have a microservices architecture, but if the services do not interact through well-defined, abstract interfaces that hide the implementation details, allowing developers to understand one service at a time without needing to know the insides of others, you're in a bad place.   You want your services to depend on well-defined contracts 🎯. Whether you achieve this or not, puts you in two different worlds:   🔥If you don't, you end up with a Distributed Monolith. You pay for all the complexity microservices bring (communication latency, increased infrastructure costs, complex diagnostics and monitoring, transactions, etc.) without the benefits of a loosely coupled system. You won't be able to develop, test, and deploy each service in isolation because changes in one service will cause other services to break in unpredictable ways, just like in a coupled monolith.   🌈 If you do, then it doesn't matter much how you code the contracts. If you need a distributed deployment and go with microservices, they may be REST, JSON, gRPC, etc. But this is just a choice. If you don't want to pay for the complexity of distributed architecture, you can write the contracts as DTOs and interfaces and deploy all the modules in one process at once. You'd have a microservices architecture deployed as a monolith, where you can develop and test each service on its own, but choose to deploy them all at once. Dear recruiters from other countries (even from Romania), Why do you think a Senior/Expert (Developer/Engineer/Lead) etc. would relocate for a project without receiving a relocation package? (because many companies don't offer this) Yes, relocating to another country on your budget is a big deal. Yes, good people (experts) get competitive rates/interesting projects even in their own country (working remotely). I see this approach more often and can't understand it.

Hello world! 👋 Let's say I'd like my career to have a little detour from Java Mobile (read: Android 🤖) to Java Backend 🔙🔚 given almost absent activity on native mobile market on relocatable [to EU]/remote 🌍/Serbia-based positions 👨‍🔧, looming AI 🤖 threat on the screen-bound industries and assumption that future leadership is nothing without at least taking a knack on the "other side" 💪 . Has anyone any advices or routes to take on where to start ? 😰 Me: - know system design (recent senior position implies) - learned and wielding since the mid-career Docker 🐋🚢 - and everything in-between like Kubernetes (practical), microservices (observatory) in recent experience, although no RDBMS or Kafka/Redis - seen how the backend team works inside out - know Java 8 and Kotlin (and don't believe the 22nd version is any different from them semantically) - have an engineering 👨‍💻 mindset and willingness to learn more and fast 🚴‍♂️. - active and striving to be initiative 🙋‍♂️ - ready for downshift (as is usually the case on tracks change). And yes, I'm #OpenToWork and have no shame on admitting it.

You can't change an agency's interview process. 🚨 But you can take a shortcut with this trick 👇 12 days ago, I talked to a German senior DevOps engineer. He reached out after my post about breaking free from agencies. For 2 years, he worked directly with CTOs as clients. He loved it as… He could connect to those CTOs in the interviews cause… They had a similar mindset. They were devs too in the past. Sadly…this all changed as… His last three roles were through agencies. He had zero connection to the actual client and… He felt like just another number in the system. I gave it to him straight: 🧔🏽‍♂️: “Your problem isn’t the agencies.” 🧔🏽‍♂️: “It’s your positioning.” We reflected on his best clients and… Spotted a pattern: 1) They were German FinTech CTOs 2) They spent hours troubleshooting GCP security issues. That’s when it hit him: 👉 He could position himself to solve that exact problem. 👈 So, we rewrote his LinkedIn headline to: ✅ GCP security for German FinTechs: I implement zero-trust architecture to protect sensitive financial data Suddenly, he wasn’t just another generic “Freelance DevOps Engineer” anymore. He was the solution to a painful problem many CTOs have. Only 5 days later, a startup CTO reached out. No agency. No formal process. Just a direct connection based on an urgent, real need. Remember: You can’t change an agency’s interview process, but… You can change how you position yourself. Try it and… Change your freelance dev life. Now.

There’s a reason why only two of the top hundred software companies are in the European Union. Ambition is much more natural in the States than in the EU. Where I grew up in Hungary, ambition is not something you're proud of. You're being taught that you should stay a simple man. You should work 9 to 5. And that's generally accepted. This is the ideal life. Stay the simple man. Success & money is associated with shady dealings. After visiting the US, it’s hard to remain in the mindset of staying small when you see so many people rushing to fulfill their potential and achieve success. As social creatures, we tend to converge towards the behaviors of people who we spend the most time with. You know … “you are the average of the five people you hang out with the most” … So if you surround yourself with people who are ambitious and always thinking about solving a big problem, you will find yourself solving big problems as well. It’s inevitable.

At JettyCloud, there are many different technological teams. We're starting a series of stories about them and their work. Engineering Manager Irina Skaterschikova talked about what the Billing team does: "Billing is a full-stack team. We work with Java 17, Spring Boot framework, Oracle, Typescript, Rabbit MQ, Docker, and Kubernetes. We're involved in developing and maintaining the Billing Admin Portal. It's an internal high-load service that allows managing and configuring billing both at the level of individual users of our service and the entire billing system as a whole. Currently, we're working on two major projects: developing and supporting tools for partners that help us actively sell the service and increase profit, as well as developing new and improving existing tools for managing the billing catalog with a UI. For example, there's a lot you can do from the portal: change cards, transfer to another subscription, change payment methods, give discounts to users, or suspend them, access billing history, and much more... With a few clicks from the UI, our financial specialists can independently create new subscription plans or expand existing ones, change prices for offered services, manage subscriptions for sales, for partners, create new services for sale, and plan their launch. All this can be done without the involvement of engineers and without adjusting to release cycles! As for what motivates in my team, there are several positive points for me: - We're working on an unusual and important product for the system — we managed to fit and store different things in one architecture: price, provisioning settings, and much more, and it's all user-friendly! It's not just a portal where you can set prices and so on — it's a complex system where all components interact with each other. - We have short development and delivery cycles, which keeps us on our toes. Quality and product stability are important to us. - Of course, my colleagues: I enjoy working with them, they're interested in the product and its development. Their expertise motivates me, there's something to learn from each of them."

Old data = wrong decision You see, when I started thinking about relocation to #Serbia I found too much information about non convenient accounting services, and with my experience in #fintech I decided to find partners from financial/accounting companies to create platform for solving this problem. It should be cloud platform for small businesses. It was long way to find contacts ready to talk with me, but today it happens. What to say - it was good to spend time with professionals, who can explain pros and cons of my idea. In short - that problem was solved (I really had very old information - internet keeps too much)) Good news - it was not the only idea, I always keep in mind #edtech theme to start! So, as usual)) I'm searching product manager/business analytics interested in educational process, study, exams, tests and so on (as for me, I have experience in school and IT education/testing).
